The Hunt for the Perfect White Tee

July 11, 2017

I’m a jeans and white tee kind of girl—y’know, the classics but with an edge. And since I’m always on the hunt for the perfect white tee (why so elusive?),  I decided to take my hunt to the next level. I tried on about 30 tees over the past few weeks and found some AMAZING picks that I’m stoked to share with you.

But first let’s talk perfect white tee criteria. Loose but not super baggy. Light weight but not transparent (a little peep of black bra action underneath is OK in my books). Neck has to be a V, but not a high V-neck like I'm at row club or deep-V like I'm in a night club. And finally it can’t cost a million, cause I want at least 3 of them in my closet at all times.

ROUND UP. Okay, here’s my 5 favourites. I’m kicking myself for not taking high res photos in each of them. It didn’t occur to me that I’d write a blog post about it until this week. Epic fail. But I pulled out some old Instas and linked below.

1. Frank + Oak Tencel-Linen Fluid V-Neck Tee in Bright White $25 (on sale)
Soft and swishy, this staple V-neck tee is a not-so-basic essential with pure comfort potential. The airy linen blend makes it perfect on its own or under layer away. Note: Above I’m wearing the Frank + Oak Tencel Linen Fluid V-Neck in Bright White in size is XS and these denim shorts. I have the F+O tee in black and white and love them both.

You can also see me in it here (and directly below) on my Insta.

2. Old Navy Linen V-neck Tee $17

Ok, I’m a big fan of this one. Not gonna lie, I bought 3 of them. Perfectly lightweight for summer. I bought mine early in the year and features a seam down the back which I really like. Not sure if the new ones have this. Fits a bit on the big side, my XS is on the verge of too big but I’m okay with that. This shirt is really similar to the Frank + Oak on above, but the material feels more like cotton and less like linen. GAP also does a really similar linen tee for $22 here with no back seam

3. Madewell Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tee in Optic White $19

This one is super soft in a slubbed jersey. It has a breast pocket, so if that’s not your jam take a pass. It’s made to fit loose but runs TTS. I took an XS and was happy. It definitely has a slimmer fit and a shorter sleeve than most others I tried. Be warned the neck will give out a bit over time, so wash with care. Shop for it here at ShopBop  or here at Nordstrom

4. Lush deep v neck tee in White $24

My girlfriends RAVE about this tee, so I had to check it out. The fit is really flattering. It drapes a bit in the front with a curved hem. The neck is more of a scoop than a true v. If you’re looking for a feminine take on the perfect white v-neck, THIS is your unicorn.

Unfortunately, I don't have a photo in this one, but you can check it out at Nordstrom here.

5. Kit and Ace Straight Up V $68
The most expensive of them all, but it’s made from Kit & Ace’s high quality technical cashmere fabric which makes it perfect for dressing up or down. This company was started by Lululemon founder, Chip Wilson, and I have a few other shirts in this fabric and their Miskace fabric and they get so much wear. I find I’m always reaching for them in my closet. Only bummer is the price and the white is always sold out.

You can also see me in it here (and directly below) on my Insta. Note: It's a true V-neck though in the photo below looks scooped. I think the V is just pulled to the side cause I have my babe on my hip. Mom probs.

That's my round up. Honourable mention goes to Rag and Bone's Classic Tee (ahem, that price tho)  and Halogen's Modal Jersey Vee Neck

Happy hunting for your perfect white tee. Drop me a comment and let me know if this is helpful (maybe not?) or if I missed a winner.
